Do-It-Yourself Home Medical Test Kits.

September 6th, 2009 by admin

Today there are so many reasons for patients to seek out the do-it-yourself home medical testing kits.  Paternity DNA testing, ovulation and pregnancy, disease and STD testing, hormone imbalance, teen drug and alcohol screening, just to name a few.

Hormone Tests

With today’s innovative healthcare technologies, more and more people around the world have access to determining their own state of health and disease.   The main reasons patients self test are curiosity and the need for a second opinion.  Patients want to know if there is a medical problem or they may have a need to know what the various symptoms that they are experiencing mean.  It has never been easier to go get tested now!

In today’s instant gratification and do-it-yourself world – medical and laboratory testing is no exception.  The internet has been a wonderful tool for anyone seeking medical information.  Although care must be taken to insure that the websites giving medical information and advice are authority driven websites.  With all the information available it can be easy to misdiagnose an illness or be misled into thinking that nothing is wrong when there could be a serious underlying medical condition that can only be determined with a trained doctor.  The medical information found on the internet should not be a substitute for actual medical care by a physician.

There are at-home do-it-yourself test kits available for many, many, health related and serious medical conditions.   The patient community now has access to determining whether they have a specific disease or illness with the use of a DIY test kit that can simply be ordered online.

* Women have been able to confirm a suspected pregnancy by simple DIY test kits for many years.  In the fertility arena in recent years, women have been able to pinpoint ovulation and a variety of hormonal imbalances to increase the chances of achieving pregnancy.

*A popular television program has made it commonplace to determine with pinpoint accuracy (via the use of DNA and genetic testing) the paternity of a child when the mother has had multiple partners and is not sure who the child’s father is. This test can now be done discreetly at home.

*Parents are now able to use a drug test kit to test their teens for drug and alcohol use as well as steroid use which could potentially avert a serious addiction.

Parents Drug Test Kits

*Hormone imbalances can now be detected easily with a home test kit.  This is important for many illnesses and conditions as well as for PMS sufferers and women dealing with menopausal symptoms.  A simple hormone imbalance can mimic a serious disease  when in fact there is none.  Appropriate treatments can then be planned with your physician.

Now the medical technology comes to the hands of the entire patient community.

The tests kits are just as reliable as the tests done by medical laboratories because many of the DIY test kits are sent to those very same labs for analysis.  Some tests offer instant results (such as the dip-stick type of tests for urine) but many (cheek swabs, nail and hair clippings, etc) need to be analyzed by professionals thereby giving the patient accurate results as would be the case when your own doctor orders the very same lab test.  Directions will be given with your kit on how to perform the test as well as where to send it for analysis.

The upside is patient empowerment but there is also a downside.  The results of a paternity test could be unexpected and lead to legal issues or emotional trauma, or a genetic test could show a gene mutation that is indicative of a fatal disease such as ovarian cancer or errors in determining the sex of an unborn child.

Early Disease Detection

The home medical testing market is on the rise and with the accuracy and advances in genetic testing  will continue to be very popular.  The prices are within the reach of the average patient.  Many DIY medical test kits will not be covered under many health insurance policys that go outside the plan for lab testing.  Check with your personal health insurer.

What are some of the signs that you are beginning Menopause?

September 28th, 2009 by admin

I’ve always been a 28-day-cycle girl  – you could set your clock by my period. But now it can be 25 days or 23 days and then back to 28 days. I am 46 so could this be a sign that I am beginning menopause?

Menopause is the transition period in a woman’s life when her ovaries stop producing eggs, her body produces less estrogen and progesterone, and menstruation becomes less frequent, eventually stopping altogether.

Menopause is a natural event that normally occurs between the ages of 45 and 55. Once menopause is complete (called postmenopause), you can no longer become pregnant. The symptoms of menopause are caused by changes in estrogen and progesterone levels. As the ovaries become less functional, they produce less of these hormones and the body responds accordingly.

The specific symptoms you experience and how significant (mild, moderate, or severe) varies from woman to woman. In some women, menstrual flow comes to a sudden halt. More commonly, it tapers off. During this time, your menstrual periods generally become either more closely or more widely spaced. This irregularity may last for 1 to 3 years before menstruation finally ends completely.

A gradual decrease of estrogen generally allows your body to slowly adjust to the hormonal changes. When estrogen drops suddenly, as is seen when the ovaries are removed surgically (called surgical menopause), symptoms can be more severe. Because hormone levels fall, changes occur in the entire female reproductive system. The vaginal walls become less elastic and thinner. The vagina becomes shorter. Lubricating secretions from the vagina become watery. The outside genital tissue decreases. This is called atrophy of the labia.

Symptoms : The potential symptoms include: – Hot flashes and skin flushing – Night sweats – Insomnia – Mood swings including irritability, depression, and anxiety – Irregular menstrual periods – Spotting of blood in between periods – Vaginal dryness and painful sexual intercourse – Decreased sex drive – Vaginal infections – Urinary tract infections In addition, the long-term effects of menopause include: – Bone loss and eventual osteoporosis – Changes in cholesterol levels and greater risk of heart disease.

To find out if you have a HORMONE IMBALANCE or are beginning to enter into MENOPAUSE get your very own home testing medical kit.  Fast results, confidential and done at your convenience in the privacy of your own home. Very simple SALIVA Test kit!

I had blood test done on progesterone(was 10) and estradiol(was 74) What does this mean-what is the norm at 35?

September 26th, 2009 by admin

I’ve started having sleepless night, hot flashes, mood swings, irritability, anixety, crying, memory lost. That is why I had the test done to see if I have started early stages of menopause.

Estradiol (E2) is produced in women mainly in the ovary. In men, the testes and adrenal glands are the principal source of estradiol. In women, normal levels of estradiol provide for proper ovulation, conception, and pregnancy, in addition to promoting healthy bone structure and regulating cholesterol levels. Normal Result Limits: This test result has no single level of normal results.

Your lab report should include a range of numbers that identifies what is expected for you based on your age, sex, and the method used in that laboratory. Since progesterone levels vary predictably throughout the menstrual cycle, multiple (serial) measurements can be used to help recognize and manage some causes of infertility. Progesterone can be measured to determine whether or not a woman has ovulated, to determine when ovulation occurred, and to monitor the success of induced ovulation.

Normal Result Limits: This test result has no single level of normal results. Your lab report should include a range of numbers that identifies what is expected for you based on your age, sex, and the method used in that laboratory. Without knowing why you are having these tests done its hard to really give you a correct answer to your question.

Is there a way to increase my Progesterone and Estradiol levels?

September 24th, 2009 by admin

Hello, I’d like to know if there is any supplement or natural way to increase my progesterone and estradiol level? Currently I am trying to conceive. Thanks for your information.

Over the counter there are Progestrone cremes. But other than that you have to have a prescription for the Progestrone Suppositories. And you have to have had an 18 panel blood test done to know for sure that your progestrone level is too low for you to concieve properly. I had blood test done and found out I have low progestrone, I have a blood clot disorder and with an ultrasound I found out that I have a tilted uterus and cyst on my ovaries. NOW…with all that being said….I have to take Progestrone suppositories once a day starting on day 14 of my cycle, then when I get pregnant I will go to 2x a day. BUT I also have to take a folic acid pill, pre-natal vitamins and a baby asprin once a day. And as soon as I get a positive result I will also have to give myself 2 Hemprin injections twice a day. But you don’t want to start taking Progestrone creme unless your doctor has told you that you have low Progestrone. GOOD LUCK if you want to talk more feel free to contact me Cugini2006@yahoo.com

Why Paternity Testing is Vital to The Truth

September 22nd, 2009 by admin

The paternity of a child is not always certain and may need to be verified for a variety of reasons: custody cases, medical reasons, ancestry, immigration, etc.  Home paternity test kits are invaluable for determining paternity.  Home medical testing can be done in the comfort and privacy of your own home with fast, confidential results delivered to you.

The case of Senator John Edwards is a classic example of why paternity testing can be important.  You can read the details in this article.  It claims that Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards talked a campaign aide into claiming he fathered a child born to Edwards’ onetime mistress, sources familiar with the issue said Monday.  The aide now denies that claim forcing a paternity test to secure the truth.

Paternity DNA Testing at Home

September 14th, 2009 by admin

Now you can do DNA genetic testing at home.

There are times in life when the DNA paternity of a child is in question.  There may be a need to determine whether a biological relationship exists between an alleged father and a child.  The genome of every individual is a combination of both the parents which makes it unique and act as a DNA finger print that can help in tracing back parents. A paternity test involves looking at the DNA of the child in order to find the identity of the alleged father.  Now with home medical testing for everything from ovulation to pregnancy to paternity – it could not be easier or more confidential.

There are many reasons that a child’s biological paternity must be determined.  A father may have doubts whether a child is biologically his or not. An adopted child may wish to confirm paternity just to make sure after seeking out his bio father.  The mother may need to know the paternity of her child in the case of more than one sexual partner or in the case of rape where a pregnancy occurs.  The courts may need to know in the case of a custody battle that involves child support payments or medical issues.   A test my also be needed to settle an estate or inheritance issues.

In days gone by this was a long, drawn out public procedure.  Today there is a better, more confidential method available.  In the privacy of your home you can now do the same exact lab test that your doctor or the court would order.  The Home DNA Paternity Test is of the highest quality in the industry and uses the most advanced technology.  The results are confidential and can be mailed to you or sent to you by email.  The home paternity tests are fast and painless.   It’s as simple as a cheek swab.  The Cheek swab method is just as accurate as a blood sample as the DNA is the exact same.  Although,  blood testing can also be done.   The most accurate and conclusive DNA test results are provided at a very affordable price and available in 5 – 7 days.

Legal paternity test, or the legal DNA paternity, not only requires accurate test results but also requires the proof of identity of each person who has participated in the test. The paternity test is admissible in court if needed for legal cases, is legally binding and is accredited by the AABB and the College of American Pathologists Proficiency Testing.   The analysis in conducted using 16 genetic markers and is backed by our DNA Paternity Testing Accuracy Guarantee.

There are also home test kits available for other relationship tests and include: maternity, grandparents, siblings, twin zygosity, aunt and uncle, and even first and second cousins. While DNA test results for extended family relationships are not as conclusive as a DNA paternity test or other close relationship DNA test, they can support a distant biological relationship.

So stop wondering and go get tested now!
