Is it possible to be starting menopause and all of the hormonal lab work turn out negative?

January 31st, 2010 by admin

My mom is 49 years old and has been having sudden anxiety/depression. She describes what sounds to be like a hot flash combined with sudden anxiety and panic. She went to the MD and was tested for elevated estrogen/progesterone/luteinizing hormone, but all were within normal limits. IS it possible to be starting menopause without having elevated hormones?

Yes that is precisely what happened to me – my results looked fine. The blood tests give normal results based on the average person. However each individual has different hormonal requirements. My specialist put me on a very small dose of estradiol, progesterone and testosterone and my symptoms vanished.

Measure Your Progesterone Levels

October 14th, 2009 by admin

In this day and age of do-it-yourself idealogy, even the healthcare arena has been effected.  People are taking control of their healthcare and becoming more knowledgeable about all aspects of diseases, symptoms and treatments.  With the access to the world wide web in most homes today it is fairly easy to determine or at least get a good idea of what is ailing you.

There are medical websites and medical forums and all kinds of social media sites that allow you to ask the questions and seek the answers.  Patients today now show up at doctors appointments armed with more information and questions and are helping their physicians to determine what medical care is needed.  Healthcare has become more like a partnership with patients taking a more proactive role in their own care.  Television shows like ‘The Doctors’ and ‘Dr. Oz’ are educating and empowering people to begin to take charge of their own bodies.

A hot topic these days in healthcare is Menopause and Hormone Replacement Therapy.  Women have taken charge of their bodies with a need to know.  They want answers and they are not afraid to ask the questions.  Improving the quality of life is at issue when it come to menopausal symptoms.  There are many healthy options available for women seeking treatment and now it is easier than ever to determine whether there is a hormone imbalance – and there almost always is – and to decide with your doctor what course of action is best to take for each individual woman.

Determining hormone levels for several different hormones is the first step to treatment.  Hormones fluctuate all the time so getting a good baseline is important and testing periodically is key as adjustments may need to made in the treatment plan from time to time.

Home test kits for hormone levels are available to women now without a prescription or a referral to a lab.  You can find out yourself by doing a simple saliva test in the comfort and privacy of your own home what your hormone levels are.  It is easier than ever to see the results yourself.

If you are experiencing any of the symptoms listed below, measuring your progesterone levels may assist you and your physician in diagnosis. This saliva progesterone imbalance test will tell you if your progesterone levels are within the expected optimal range depending on your age and sex.

Only when you know the cause of your symptoms can you work on the solution. It is possible that your progesterone levels are not what they should be.

This progesterone imbalance saliva test kit is painless and noninvasive and there are no needles involved. When you have your blood drawn your stress level can rise that can alter the test results. With this saliva hormone imbalance test kit your privacy is ensured as you take the samples in your home.

There is absolutely no special handling techniques required as hormones are stable in saliva at room temperatures. This progesterone imbalance saliva test kit is less expensive than conventional blood testing and saves time as you do not have to book a time at the laboratory.

This progesterone saliva test kit will help to identify hidden progesterone imbalances within your body, either deficiency or excess, that are associated with symptoms of menopause, andropause including reproductive disorders, chronic illness and diseases associated with aging.

Progesterone is a known neuroprotective agent and is also known to be associated with regulation of maternal immune function during pregnancy. Often, exogenous progesterone is administered to prepare uterine lining in infertility therapy and to support early pregnancy. What are some of the signs that you are beginning Menopause?

September 28th, 2009 by admin

I’ve always been a 28-day-cycle girl  – you could set your clock by my period. But now it can be 25 days or 23 days and then back to 28 days. I am 46 so could this be a sign that I am beginning menopause?

Menopause is the transition period in a woman’s life when her ovaries stop producing eggs, her body produces less estrogen and progesterone, and menstruation becomes less frequent, eventually stopping altogether.

Menopause is a natural event that normally occurs between the ages of 45 and 55. Once menopause is complete (called postmenopause), you can no longer become pregnant. The symptoms of menopause are caused by changes in estrogen and progesterone levels. As the ovaries become less functional, they produce less of these hormones and the body responds accordingly.

The specific symptoms you experience and how significant (mild, moderate, or severe) varies from woman to woman. In some women, menstrual flow comes to a sudden halt. More commonly, it tapers off. During this time, your menstrual periods generally become either more closely or more widely spaced. This irregularity may last for 1 to 3 years before menstruation finally ends completely.

A gradual decrease of estrogen generally allows your body to slowly adjust to the hormonal changes. When estrogen drops suddenly, as is seen when the ovaries are removed surgically (called surgical menopause), symptoms can be more severe. Because hormone levels fall, changes occur in the entire female reproductive system. The vaginal walls become less elastic and thinner. The vagina becomes shorter. Lubricating secretions from the vagina become watery. The outside genital tissue decreases. This is called atrophy of the labia.

Symptoms : The potential symptoms include: – Hot flashes and skin flushing – Night sweats – Insomnia – Mood swings including irritability, depression, and anxiety – Irregular menstrual periods – Spotting of blood in between periods – Vaginal dryness and painful sexual intercourse – Decreased sex drive – Vaginal infections – Urinary tract infections In addition, the long-term effects of menopause include: – Bone loss and eventual osteoporosis – Changes in cholesterol levels and greater risk of heart disease.

To find out if you have a HORMONE IMBALANCE or are beginning to enter into MENOPAUSE get your very own home testing medical kit.  Fast results, confidential and done at your convenience in the privacy of your own home. Very simple SALIVA Test kit!

I had a blood test done on progesterone(was 10) and estradiol (was 74) What does this mean-what is the norm at 35?

September 26th, 2009 by admin

I’ve started having sleepless night, hot flashes, mood swings, irritability, anixety, crying, memory lost. That is why I had the test done to see if I have started early stages of menopause.

Estradiol (E2) is produced in women mainly in the ovary. In men, the testes and adrenal glands are the principal source of estradiol. In women, normal levels of estradiol provide for proper ovulation, conception, and pregnancy, in addition to promoting healthy bone structure and regulating cholesterol levels. Normal Result Limits: This test result has no single level of normal results.

Your lab report should include a range of numbers that identifies what is expected for you based on your age, sex, and the method used in that laboratory. Since progesterone levels vary predictably throughout the menstrual cycle, multiple (serial) measurements can be used to help recognize and manage some causes of infertility. Progesterone can be measured to determine whether or not a woman has ovulated, to determine when ovulation occurred, and to monitor the success of induced ovulation.

Normal Result Limits: This test result has no single level of normal results. Your lab report should include a range of numbers that identifies what is expected for you based on your age, sex, and the method used in that laboratory. Without knowing why you are having these tests done its hard to really give you a correct answer to your question.

Is there a way to increase my Progesterone and Estradiol levels?

September 24th, 2009 by admin

Hello, I’d like to know if there is any supplement or natural way to increase my progesterone and estradiol level? Currently I am trying to conceive. Thanks for your information.

Over the counter there are Progestrone cremes. But other than that you have to have a prescription for the Progestrone Suppositories. And you have to have had an 18 panel blood test done to know for sure that your progestrone level is too low for you to concieve properly. I had blood test done and found out I have low progestrone, I have a blood clot disorder and with an ultrasound I found out that I have a tilted uterus and cyst on my ovaries. NOW…with all that being said….I have to take Progestrone suppositories once a day starting on day 14 of my cycle, then when I get pregnant I will go to 2x a day. BUT I also have to take a folic acid pill, pre-natal vitamins and a baby asprin once a day. And as soon as I get a positive result I will also have to give myself 2 Hemprin injections twice a day. But you don’t want to start taking Progestrone creme unless your doctor has told you that you have low Progestrone. GOOD LUCK if you want to talk more feel free to contact me Cugini2006@yahoo.com
