Do You Suspect You May Have Diabetes?

Are you worried that you may have developed diabetes but you have not been officially diagnosed yet?  Over 6 million Americans do not know it but they do indeed have diabetes and the numbers are on the rise.  Do you have many of the risk factors and it is something that you constantly have on your health radar?

Like many Americans we can’t help but hear about the epidemic of the disease in our country as well as the precursor which is pre-diabetes.  If you are worried but fearful of seeing the doctor then you should at least be monitoring your blood sugar with a simple test that you can do several times a day.  You can buy a blood glucose monitor and some test strips.  They are available at most local pharmacies and also online.  Bayer the Contour Diabetes Testing Meter Blood Glucose Monitoring System- New Vibrant Apple Green Color It is an easy test to do yourself at home – and it is something that diagnosed diabetics do several times a day to keep track of their blood sugar levels and help keep the disease in control.

Being aware of the condition of your blood sugar levels is the first step to healing yourself.  Watch the video below for a quick tutorial of how to do this simple finger-prick blood test.  Test yourself for about two weeks.  Most blood glucose monitors keep your results in the memory so you have a record and an average number but you can also get a notebook and write the results down.  If you choose to do that then you might as well write down everything you eat so that you can begin to observe some patterns.  You are going to have to do this anyway if it turns out you do have diabetes so it’s good practice – just in case.  Keeping a food diary or food journal is recommended for diabetics especially when they are first diagnosed.

So, during this test-run experiment be vigilant and really get a good record so that if you do end up needing to follow-up with your doctor then he or she can see right away what has been going on inside your body and start to help you with a recovery and treatment plan.  If your numbers are very high it is recommended that you do not delay – get to the doctor as soon as possible.  The sooner treatment is started the better.  Some diabetics need to go on insulin treatment; some on oral medications and some borderline patients can correct the sugar levels with diet alone.  It is definitely not a disease to second guess – if you have it (and you will know by doing this self testing) then seeing your doctor is no longer an option because waiting could cause irreversible health problems.Your doctor will probably order a test called the hemoglobin A1c – which will determine an average of what your glucose levels (HbA1c) have been like over the past three months.  It will give a clearer picture of your state of disease.  This test is also one that you can do yourself in your own home.  If you feel that you want to know your number before you go to the doctor you can order the A1c test right here. (Click the Test Country Link below). It will give you the results you need so you can determine whether you need to make that appointment or not.

The test is easy to do. Once you collect a blood sample  (again it’s just a simple finger prick), just send it into the nationally certified laboratory.   You will receive your results fast and be on your way to better controlling your diabetes (if you have it).  Full instructions come with the test.  Your sugar levels may be just fine and doing these home tests will reassure you that you are in good health.  Or you may be pre-diabetic and knowing this can help you to begin taking care not to get full blown diabetes.  The A1c test is FDA approved and is the same exact test your doctor would order anyway.

Diabetes can be a devastating disease but it is one of the few that can be treated and those afflicted with it can live a normal life.  There are ways to help undo, and help your body recover from, the damage already caused to your body.   This is one disease that can be reversed, so to speak.  You will always have it but it can be kept in such tight control that you never would know you have it.  This can be done through diet and lifestyle changes.  Diet is the most crucial tool in your arsenal against diabetes.  So don’t delay.  If that little voice of reason in your head keeps whispering the word diabetes to you then you owe it to yourself to check it out.  Home medical testing is on the rise as more and more patients want to take their healthcare control into their own hands.  Following up with your doctor is always recommended if any home medical test you take comes back with results that warrant a second opinion.
